Terms of Use
Last updated: April 23, 2025
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Totally Free PDF Editor at totallyfreepdf.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of service
Totally Free PDF Editor is a free, browser-based tool that allows you to edit PDF files — including filling forms, adding signatures, redacting content, and rearranging pages — entirely within your web browser. No account is required. The Service is supported by advertising.
3. Free to use — no paywall
The core Service is provided free of charge. You may upload, edit, and download PDF files without payment, registration, or subscription. We reserve the right to introduce optional premium features in the future, but all currently advertised free features will remain free.
4. Your files and data
All PDF processing occurs client-side within your browser. Your files are not uploaded to our servers, stored, or transmitted to any third party by us. You retain full ownership of and responsibility for the files you edit. We do not access, review, or retain any content from your documents.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Forge, falsify, or fraudulently alter legal documents, contracts, identity documents, or official records
- Create or distribute content that violates any applicable law or regulation
- Infringe the intellectual property rights of others
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service at scale without our written consent
- Use the Service for any purpose that is unlawful or harmful to others
We reserve the right to block access for users who violate these terms, to the extent technically feasible for a client-side application.
6. Electronic signatures
The signature tool allows you to place an image of a signature on a PDF. The legal validity of an electronic signature varies by jurisdiction, document type, and context. It is your responsibility to determine whether a signature created with this tool satisfies the legal requirements for your specific use case. We make no representations about the legal enforceability of signatures created using this Service.
7. Advertising
The Service displays third-party advertisements provided by Google AdSense. Advertisements are shown on the upload screen and the post-download screen — never during active editing. By using the Service, you acknowledge the presence of advertisements. You agree not to use ad-blocking software in a manner that disrupts the Service (though we have no technical means to enforce this).
8. Intellectual property
The Service and its design, code, and content (excluding third-party libraries) are the intellectual property of Totally Free PDF Editor. Third-party open-source libraries (PDF.js, pdf-lib, Signature Pad, SortableJS) are used under their respective open-source licenses. The Totally Free PDF Editor name and logo are proprietary.
You retain all rights to the PDF files you edit using the Service.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
In plain terms: we try hard to make this work well, but we can't guarantee it will always work perfectly with every PDF. Always keep a backup of important documents.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, Totally Free PDF Editor SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, FILES, OR DOCUMENTS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Because all processing occurs in your browser, you are solely responsible for maintaining backups of any documents you edit.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Totally Free PDF Editor and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
12. Accessibility
We are committed to making this Service accessible to users with disabilities and aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. If you experience an accessibility barrier, please contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to address it.
13. Modifications to the service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice. We will not be liable to you for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts located in Delaware for any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service.
